Why Am I Showing Up for "Free Appliance Removal"? Here’s What’s Happening and How to Avoid It

If someone found your business by searching for “free appliance removal” and that’s not a service you want to promote, you’re not alone. It’s common for businesses to show up in searches for related terms that Google deems relevant, especially if similar services are listed on your website. Here’s how this happens, what we can do to reduce these results, and some tips on how to fine-tune your campaign.

1. No Paid Ads for Appliance Removal

First, rest assured we haven’t set up any ad groups or campaigns specifically for appliance removal in your paid account. Your ad sets are currently focused on broader junk removal services. However, Google’s organic search algorithm can sometimes connect similar terms—like “junk removal” and “appliance removal”—which may cause you to show up for related searches even if they’re not directly targeted in your campaigns.

2. Why You’re Ranking for “Free Appliance Removal” Searches

Since your website lists “Appliance Removal” as a service, Google can organically associate your site with similar terms like “free appliance removal.” This happens even though we’ve already added “free” as a negative keyword in your paid campaigns, meaning your budget isn’t being used for these types of searches.

Keep in mind that Google’s algorithm fills in some search results with “filler” content, especially when certain keywords (like “free”) don’t have many advertisers bidding on them. As long as “Appliance Removal” is mentioned on your website, it’s likely that you’ll continue to show up organically for related searches.

3. Clearing Appliance Keywords and Adjusting the Campaign

Since you’d prefer not to advertise for appliances at all, we’ll take steps to remove these keywords from your ad campaigns. Our team will adjust your account settings today to block appliance-related keywords. However, if you want to prevent these types of calls completely, we also recommend removing “Appliance Removal” from your website. This will further reduce the chance of organic results linking your business to appliance removal.

4. Focusing on High-Ticket Items with Targeted Campaigns

To maximize results and target your preferred high-value jobs, we recently launched standalone campaigns for specific services like hot tub removal and shed demolition. These targeted campaigns help us focus your budget on high-ticket items while avoiding unwanted keywords and searches. We’re monitoring these closely and expect to see strong performance this week.

In Summary:

  • No Paid Ads for Appliance Removal: Your ad campaigns don’t include appliance keywords, and we’re adding filters to exclude them going forward.

  • Organic Search Connections: Since “Appliance Removal” is on your website, Google may still show your site for related searches like “free appliance removal.”

  • Removing Keywords and Adjusting Listings: We recommend removing “Appliance Removal” from your website to reduce these calls.

  • Focused Campaigns on High-Ticket Services: We’re running standalone campaigns for high-value items, like hot tub and shed removal, to help maximize your return on investment.

If you notice more of these types of calls or have other keywords you’d like us to adjust, just let us know. We’re here to help make sure your ad spend is fully optimized and focused on the jobs you want.✌️
