Stop Being the System: How to Build a Business Machine that Works for You

Updated: Nov 21

Welcome to our newsletter! In any business, especially in junk removal, dumpster rental, or home services, it’s the systems that do the heavy lifting. Your job is to make those systems stronger, tighter, and more effective to see better results.

Think of it like owning a machine that pumps out results—say, an oil well that produces a million barrels a year. That oil well doesn’t just magically keep running; there’s a system in place. Sure, it requires some maintenance and manpower, but at its core, it’s the system making the magic happen.

Now, if you wanted that oil well to produce two million barrels next year, you wouldn’t need to work double-time, get twice as lucky, or hire twice as many hands. You’d go back to the system. Maybe you’d dig a bit deeper or upgrade the pumps—make a few key changes, and the output increases.

In your business, whether you’re moving junk or hauling dumpsters, growth works the same way. If you want to increase revenue, focus on your system. If you have a structured process for lead generation, follow-ups, and client retention, your revenue doesn’t just rely on sheer effort or luck. It comes from a system that’s constantly working for you, generating leads, and closing sales.

The real challenge?

If you don’t have a system, then you are the system.

And here’s the hard truth—doubling revenue when you’re the system means doubling your workload, your hours, or both. That’s a fast track to burnout. Even if you somehow pull it off once, it’s nearly impossible to keep up over time.

When you shift your focus to building and refining your system, however, it keeps improving over time, delivering stronger results. A small tweak—like fine-tuning your CRM, setting up automated emails, creating content that resonates with your audience, or optimizing ad campaigns—can make a huge difference.

So, if you’re looking to scale, the key is to build a machine that can scale with you. Start simple: maybe it’s setting up automated lead follow-ups, improving your client booking process, or dialing in ad spend to pull in more qualified leads. You don’t need to do it all at once, but as you add to and refine each part of your marketing system, you go from just doing the work to owning a system that works for you.

And that’s where exponential growth happens—when you step out of being the system and instead build one that can carry your business forward. If you’re wondering where to start, think about the one part of your process that could use a tune-up and tackle that first. ✌️
